Passive Tenses

Simple Present Tense


Active Voice             Subject+V1+Object

Passive Voice            Object+Be(am,is,are)+V3+by+Subject

 Examples:

Active Voice
Passive Voice
I write a story
A story is written by me
She sings songs well
Songs are sung by her
They play cricket
Cricket is played by them
He loves his parents
His parents are loved by him.
She loves me
I am loved by her

Simple Past Tense

Active Voice    Subject+V2+Object

Passive Voice   Object+was/were+V3+by+Subject

Examples:
Active Voice
Passive Voice
She wrote a letter
A letter was written by her
He wrote many letters on last Sunday
Many letters were written by him last Sunday
They won the match on last Sunday
The match was won by them on last Sunday
She gave a gift
A gift was given by her

Simple future tense

Active Voice    Subject+will/shall+V1+Object

Passive Voice   Object+will/shall+be+V3+by+Subject

Examples:
Active Voice
Passive Voice
I shall give a gift tomorrow
A gift will be given by me tomorrow
She will invite me to the party
I shall be invited by her to the party
They will play Chess on next Sunday
The Chess will be played by them on next Sunday
She will finish her work tomorrow
Her work will be finished by her tomorrow.

Present Continuous Tense

Active Voice    Subject+am/is/are+V4+Object

Passive Voice   Object+am/is/are+being+V3+by+Subject

Examples:
Active Voice
Passive Voice
I am writing a story
A story is being written by me
I am watching T.V
T.V is being watched by me
They are playing cricket
Cricket is being played by them
She is learning English
English is being learnt by her.

  Past Continuous Tense

Active Voice    Subject+was/were+V4+Object

Passive Voice   Object+was/were+being+V3+by+Subject

Examples:
Active Voice
Passive Voice
She was reading news paper
A news paper was being read by her
They were calling me
I was being called by them
He was buying vegetables
Vegetables were being bought by him
They were inviting her
She was being invited by them.

Future continuous Tense

Note: There is passive voice for Future Continuous Tense because 'be' occurs twice.


Active Voice    Subject+shall/will+be+V4+Object


Passive Voice   Object+shall/will+be+being+V3+by+Subject
