How to use 'Could' and 'Could not'

Can:

1.Could is used for abilities of the people who are no more.

Structure:      Subject+Could+V1

Ex:
My grand-father could ride Bicycle
A.N.R could speak English
Gandhi could weave clothes.

2.Past abilities of the people

Ex:
Chiranjeevi could dance when he was in 30's
My grand-father could walk 5km continuously

3.Past Possibilty

Ex:
She could manage without Hall-Ticket
The army could save 100 people from the floods.

Could not (couldn't):

Which was not possible in the past.

Structure   Subject+Couldn't+V1

Ex:
He could not complete his project work because there was power yesterday.
Pakistan tried its best but it couldn't win the match.
I couldn't wake up early in the morning because I slept late.

Can and Could also used to take permission:

Can+S+V1      ---->>>> Request/informal
Could+S+V1  ----->>>>Request/formal and polite.

Ex:

Can you come with me?
Can I join you in the party?
Can you help in the Seminar?

Could you grant me permission?
Could you tell me process for getting Visa?
Could you tell me details of the course?
