KEY MILESTONES IN EVOLUTION:


1950's
ARPA (Advanced Research Projects Agency)

* 1970's
ARPANET creates Precursor to Transmission Control Protocol.

*1971
  •    Universities added to network.
  • Telnet and FTP are available.
            Telnet is used for Remote Controlling access
            FTP is used for Files transfer Purpose. like sharing files on Internet.
1972
  • First Electronic Mail Message Sent.
1973
  •     ARPANET connected to England and Norway.
1974
  • TCP starts being used for communicating across a system of Networks.
1982
US Department of Defense (DoD) starts building defense data networks based on ARPANET technology.

1983
ARPANET splits into ARPANET and MILNET(Military Network)
*1983
  • Internet now in Place.
  • TCP/IP Standardized.
* 1986
  • National Science Foundation (NSF) implements NFSNET; a system of regional network of routers connected over a backbone network.

*1991
  • Archive and Gopher released. 
* 1992
  • Internet links more than 17,000 networks in 33 countries; 3 million hosts.
* 1993 
  • World Wide Web (WWW) Launched.
*1995
  • Interconnected network provides start offering service.
  • About 30 million users.

              www is like an Umbrella and remaining are all (Email,FTP,etc) under Umbrella.

Internet Standards and RFCs:

* The Internet Society 
  • Internet Architecture Board (IAB)
  • Internet Engineering Task force (IETF)
  • Internet Engineering steering Group (IESG)

Requests for Comments(RFC) publication

  •  The actual development of new standards is carried out by working groups chartered by the IETF.
  • Membership is voluntary.

The Process involved:

  • The working group makes a draft version of the document.
  • Places it in the "Internet Draft" online directory.
  • kept there for six months and review and comments on the draft obtained.
  • The IESG may approve the publication of the draft as an RFC during this period.
  • or else it is withdrawn from the directory.
  • The working group many Subsequently publish a revised version of the draft.

Facebook introduces Facebook lite

Facebook has introduced their Facebook Lite, a newer version of Facebook for android that works well across all network conditions and it uses less data. Most of the people around the access Facebook from a range of mobile devices on different networks. In many areas network can be slow and it may not support all the functions found in Facebook due to slow network. Facebook Lite was built for these situations. This application provides reliable Facebook experience at low bandwidth. Facebook Lite is very easy to install,because it has only 1 MB in size. Of course it so fast to install and quick to use.
