Phonetics The study of speech sounds how they are produced is called phonetics. Pronunciation The way in which a language or a particular words are sound is pronounced. Vowel (va-will) A speech sound in which the mouth is opened and the tongue is not touching the top of the mouth,the teeth etc.          When vowels are produced the air comes and freely through the mouth. Consonant A speech sound made by completely or partly stopping the flow of air being breathed-out through the mouth.       When consonants are produced the air escaped through the mouth with friction,but all consonants are not produced with friction. In English language there is no correspondence between the letters of the alphabet and the sounds they represent.     One letter represents more than one sounds and one sound is represented by more than one letter.
